Main talking points:
How well is your team working together?
How well is the project advancing and how are you able to contribute to the group and its goals?
How did you contribute to your team success?
At first it was going well, then we got to the the middle of the semester and also the Coronavirus happened. I guess the virus itself did not present much of a problem when this post was actually supposed to be made, but since this is being written in March 2020, then nobody should be surprised that we had to go remote which is bound to cause problems.
But even before that, as we were approaching the end of the semester, the team became a lot more fragmented than I would like it to be: the artists were doing their own thing and did not create any usable assets until a few weeks ago the other 2 programmers were working on the AI and the core mechanic of our game and also did not really communicate what they were doing other than in the commit messages. The designers were ... designing something I guess.
This brings us to the second and third talking points. The project has advanced, but not nearly as fast and as well as I hoped it would. Partially this is due to the engine we are using (more on that in another post), but also because everyone is working in an isolated environment and so it is hard for me to ascertain the total progress we made. I started out doing a bunch of random things that were meant to help me get situated while also contributing to the end goal. I dabbled in setting up some animations, as well as the movement system, camera and a few other things. Currently I am focusing on creating the weapons and a HUD that can talk to them, then moving on to the health system for the player.
I am also managing our team's repositories: one for the in-development project and the other for the finished builds to take to QA or wherever else we need to. Finally, I was also planning to be the one managing code - adding comments and stuff like that, but since it seems that most of the project will be done using the engine's visual scripting language this is not as necessary.
